A Georgian sugar nipper made from cast iron with turned treen handle mounted on a walnut rectangular base.  Such pieces, with spade shaped cutters, were used to break off a lump from a sugar loaf or cone which would then be granulated in a pestle and mortar. An unusual item of social history remaining in good condition. Circa 1800.
