A rare, 18th century Indian 'Yoni' water pourer in heavy quality copper with lovely patina.  Of elongated bulbous form with spout at one end, the piece is intended for ritual purpose - the form evolves from traditional representations of the yoni, (a cosmic symbol representing the female). This type of vessel, used in Saivite temples, is filled with water which is then poured onto the sculpture of a deity in order to bathe the god or goddess as an act of worship. Circa 1790.
