An Ethiopian dual purpose headrest carved from solid wood of lovely figure and now with a rich patina. The base is ornamented with incised geometic designs. The headrest would have been used both as a pillow and to protect elaborate hairstyles whilst the hollowed out base was used for grinding spices and other food preparation. Ethiopian. 20th century.
