A charming and decorative, 18th century faience stein with pewter mounts. The stein is painted with a humorous chinoiserie scene of two mandarins seated at a table smoking churchwarden pipes with floral and foliate motifs to either side. The pewter mounted hinged lid with reeded ball thumb-piece is dated 1771 and initialed J G F.  The interior of the lid is with three impressed touchmarks. German. Dated 1771.

Condition: the stein has a few hairline cracks and minor chips to the glaze as expected with tinglazed earthenware.
