A finely detailed 19th century watercolour of a Death's Head Hawkmoth and associated caterpillar with pencil drawing of its habitat within a maple frame. The picture of the moth, with distinctive human skull marking, was almost certainly painted by an amateur lepidopterist. Dated July 24th, 1845.
