Of exceptional quality. a William IV period chest of drawers in mahogany of lovely original colour and striking figure by the highly reputed furniture makers, Gillows of Lancaster and London.  This large and capacious chest of drawers has an arrangement of 2 short and 3 full-length graduated, mahogany lined drawers with cock-beaded edges and superb quality timber used throughout.  The drawers retain the original turned rosewood handles, escutcheons and locks (one period replacement). The whole is raised on large 'melon' feet.  Interestingly, the underside of the left hand drawer is signed by the cabinet maker, James Tennant who is recorded as working for Gillows from 1834. He has many pieces illustrated in the Gillows estimate sketch book.  English, circa 1835.
