A decorative Somalian headrest of interesting 'stylised horn' silhouette carved from specially selected wood of lovely figure and golden colour, now with a warm patina. The headrest, raised on two integral supports with subtle carving to the underside, terminates in a round block base. The top of the headrest displays the figure of the wood in an 'eye' design. Headrests were used both as a pillow and to protect elaborate hairstyles. Origin: Somalia. 20th century.
