A particularly large, Regency period convex mirror of traditional form in a gilded gesso frame with ball, ribbon and leaf decoration. The orignal mirror plate is held within a contrasting reeded ebony slip. The condition is good overall with minor losses to the gilding commensurate with age. Circa 1820.
Mirrors of this form are sometimes referred to as 'Butler's mirrors' as they would be hung in a dining room so the butler could see in the reflection what was required at the table whilst he carried out his duties.
