A high quality Edo period Japanese plate with central roundel depicting a contemplative scene of a vase under a pine tree in blue and white.  The sectional border features a phoenix and various geometric designs and floral motifs in warm tones of orange, iron red and green highlighted with gilding.  Underlining the quality of the plate, the reverse is decorated with a decorative design in blue and iron red. Circa 1800-20.
