A decorative Somalian headrest of interesting silhouette carved from specially selected hardwood. The ends are with serrated edges and the underside is carved with incised geometric patterns. The top of the headrest displays the figure of the wood in a dramatic 'owl eye' design. Headrests were used both as a pillow and to protect elaborate hairstyles. Origin: Somalia. 20th century.
