Ethiopian headrest

Dimensions:

An Ethiopian dual purpose headrest carved from a particularly attractive solid wood of lovely figure, now with a rich patina.  The collar and base are ornamented with incised ring decoration. The headrest would have been used both as a pillow and to protect elaborate hairstyles whilst the hollowed out base, of conical form, was used for grinding spices and other food preparation.  Ethiopian. 20th century.
