A beautiful Georgian tea caddy of fine quality, veneered in mahogany of lovely colour especially selected for its flame figure. The caddy, of rectangular form, is inlaid with tulip, ebony and boxwood bandings and retains its original lozenge shaped bone escutcheon and pointed oval handle in patinated brass. The lid opens on stop-hinges to reveal a fitted interior, one side lined in red velvet for the glass sugar bowl, the other for the removable, zinc paper lined caddy. The hinged lid of the caddy is veneered in fiddle-back mahogany with tulip and box wood inlays. The underside of the caddy lid is veneered in mahogany, tulip and boxwood centred by an oval panel in hare wood inlaid with the initials, 'AW' in a decorative scrolling font. An attractive, bespoke made caddy remaining in excellent original condition. Circa 1800.
