A rare and finely painted 18th century blue and white Dutch Delft calendar plate for the month of Jannewary (January). The plate features various winter pursuits including a sleigh, some skaters and a gentleman in a tent being offered a drink. The underside of the plate features the mark for the De Porceleyne Bijl (The Porcelain Axe) factory. Circa 1764-88.
Condition: the plate has a hairline crack as shown.
A similar example, the gift of Mrs Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1927, can be found as part of a set in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.
